At my wits end - Help URGENTLY REQUIRED!!!!!!! 04 RSV Mille(new shape)

Right... had a few electrical grimlins which i thought were resolved...but today all hell broke lose....the rear brake seized and the brake hose melted which caused the sensor cable on the back rear to melt through(would that affect anything)

I stoppped my bike to cool it off so that i could make it home...switch my bike off...then gave it a few minutes, a really help young lady gave me some water to cool things off.

So...now i tried to start my bike and nothing happens...the alarm switches off as usual..but i can't hear the fuel pump activate and the starter switch doesn't mak the engine turnover

Its just dead...my battery was charged...and i can understand why the bike won't start
The exclamation with the triangle around it stays on...when i switch the ignition on, all the lights come on as nornmal...but there is nothing wen i press the starter switch

Any ideas on how i can fix this...if i can;t then its off to the bike shop and ...as much as i love my bike...i'll have to get something else more reliable

rear brake needs adjusting to allow movement
if ya charging system is pooped ya battery will be dead after a few miles
Brown connectors are one problem....stator burning out is the worst case
go get a Honda ....mines had 2 stators ...a new dash coz the indicator relay packed up and its part of the dash ffs ....and a whole new wirer loom ... love the bike but no they ain't reliable

thanks ..the problem is not the rear Brake...i know what the problem is with that... the problem is that i've put a new stator in and soldered the brown connectors... but for no reason the bike won;t start... after i switched the bike off...to check the rear brake

    Yep agree.
Fantastic bikes, but you've got to have patience.
    Mines had
    new stator
    brown connector fix
fork stancions re chromed at 7000 miles
    new clocks
    replacement dog bone
    new clutch slave cyl
    rearsets to fix that brake
    +
Loads of little gremlins, battery, relay, water in rear lamp cluster etc.
They are a high maintenance tool, bit like a seductress really, but tbh, it still makes sense to have a 2nd ride availabe for those times when it's up on the blocks.
I've considered selling mine loads of times, but can't bring myself to do it, it's one of the most involving bikes I've ever owned.

Thank Tifa...its definitely a love/hate relationship...generally my bikes been really reliable...this recent issue is my own doing...no point me being too upset about it...just thought i could ride it without the speed sensor...i am looking at getting a 2nd ride...so that i don;t pull what's left of my thinning hair out

yes, the speedo sensor is by the rear brake! see if you can get hold of a 2nd hand one to see if it fixes problem, im fairly certain it will!

Check the most simple things first, this is what happens to me and it was as simple as pulling the fuses and cleaning the terminals and tightening 5mins and fixed, btw it took me days to sort mine, I should have started here lol

Ditto..60,000 miles. 6 yrs owned, let me down once (stator). Had Jap bikes which have caused more problems ie ZX9 Head gasket, R1 eating its own gearbox..But numerous Kawasaki's that put me off that brand.
    Maybe we've been lucky?

Totally agree with the above. I've had 2 milles and they were both really reliable.
My theory is alot of people don't do any maintenance and/or wash them carelessly with hoses etc??

Check the fuse that protects the speedo sensor, it also feeds part of the ignition system, common fault, usually pops the fuse when water gets in and stops the motor.

Hope you've got it sorted mate.
If not check the advice in previous posts.
It's not something silly like you might have hit the Run switch, or the dreaded side stand switch is it?

mines broken down once...well loose solenoid connections ...worse part was i was all loaded for the TTb unstrapping everything ..lol

the only other times its let me down is when i've not topped up the battery after not being used ..but thats just laziness on my part

@nikfubar....what do u mean .. " Fcuk me I must have the most reliable RSVR in the world " .......fouk me too and count me in for the 2nd most reliable 2000 RSV-R sold the bike at 67 000 km and the motor running like a clock. The sidestand switch played up, cleaned it and that was that. Nothing else worth mentioning.

gen 1 bikes don't eat the stators ... only a gen 2 problem I believe

people say they have a reliable bike .... but how long have you owned it ....my zc9 had no problems in 5 years ...used every day like my rsvr ... had my rsvr almost 6 years ... 3 stators ...New wire loom ...New dash ...I maintain my bikes all as they should and don't drench it when washing

so I still say the gen 2 bikes ain't that reliable ...shame coz I love the bike
