Coil pack replacement Do I need to replace all 4?

As the title says I think I have an issue with the Coil on my 03 milie. When the bike gets hot (Above 85) in city traffic it developed a misfire when accelerating. I'v read here its the coil breaking down because of the heat and expansion breaking the contact on already damaged wires?

My question is do I need to replace all 4 or can I just replace one? I'v been told they are all the same. Its a difference between spending 9 and 50 so whats the story?

Have you checked all the plug leads etc and all the connections first .

I went through them again and so did my mechanic and all seems fine.Tested the coils, leads and Plugs with the multi meter and all are as they should be. All I can think is because its an intermittent fault and it only happens above 85 degrees while under load it all points back towards the coil pack.

I'v bought just the coil with no leads. all in €36 inc P&P from the UK.

It could be but i think it's a huge leap of faith to blame the coils based on what you know.

Bear in mind the ecu has a misfire sensor for the coils and the bike is riddled with sensors for fueling and temp etc even more so on a Gen2 model all of which can affect it's running.

As you have bought one i guess you will find out soone enough but of all the common failures Rsv's have, coils aren't really one of them, they do fail but not commonly. A Temp related electrical break down applies to anything electrical around the motor really not just the coil.

That's it Spoonz its a bit of trial and error. I'v checked the fuel pump and pipe work but nothing seems to be out place. Fingers crossed as its been a reality problem free bike before this happened.

So I replaced all 4 coils as I don't have time to be doing the Christmas three light thing of replacing one and see how it works. I'v also replaced the plugs which I should looked at closer as the front set where only finger tight and a bit smutty. With the replacement coils and the new plugs it idling a bit faster than normal or it could be just running better its hard to tell

So a few weeks on and the bike is running like a dream. Looks like the coils were the issue and with a new set of sparks its running and sounding great.
