    Newbie-Advice please if you will.

I'm sure this has been done before, but this is a little different.

Im going to see a 1999 RSV this wknd with a view to purchase, always loved um and my old 600 is just not enough now. However the bike has been stood for 5 years, the guy is 55 with back and neck injuries and the riding position was hurting, he said he just couldn't face selling it and wanted to keep it, but now he knows he won't ride it. he reckons he lost the service history during a couple of house moves too.

So my questions to you guys are, what do I need to look out for?

Tyres will prob be shot unless hes had it on paddock stands out of the sun. I know it will need oil (Fork too), filters, fluids all flushed and changed. Battery will be shit too I expect. But is there anything else I need to check?

    Thanks guys.

    Great forum btw.

dont try and start it without a fully charged battery as you could end up shagging the sprag clutch

Probably be worth taking the plug leads off as well and turning it over a few times to circulate some oil and check it moves over ok!

Also fuel lines, if they have dried out you could be replacing them and the internal ones inside the tank and fuel pump, little things like rubber seals on the fuel system, but don't let that put you off if the bike looks good

    Just haggle hard

It's actually very tidy, a few scratches but for a 15 yr old bike that's to big expected. Sorry had to reregister as the other one wouldn't work again. needs a bit of tlc. one thing I did notice, I took it out for a cheeky ride, no bike registration yet so not legal, but anyway it was a bit hard to shift down the gears, going up was fine, when you put it first it's like the clutch is slipping and it want s to go, any thoughts? Maybe a good fluid change will do the trick. Kin love it already tho.
