Anyone else swapped metal tank for plastic one ? if so is this normal ? .....

As per my other thread I had the leaking overflow pipe problem which should have been an easy fix but due to me snapping a bolt in the tank from the fuel pump it turned into a bit of a nightmare.

I decided the easiest solution would be a replacement tank and got looking on Ebay. The only tanks I could find were plastic so I bought one for 90 locally from a breakers but it didn`t have the fuel cap bit to close against so it got returned. I found another one and got it for a bargain price of 50 inc the pump and the cap was in place so I just needed to swap the locking part out though I did have a 5 hr round trip to collect it !

Anyways I fitted it this eve and discovered the tank didn`t quite fit as nicely as I was expecting ? It was as if the tank was longer than the metal one ? I have managed to get it to fit but it took some playing about. The little bobble bits (technical term!) on the battery had to go and the hinge had to be removed and now its more of a clamp. Is this normal for them to be so different in size and has anyone else experienced this ? Oh and as the tank was further back the seat was a pain to get bolted up as well.

On the plus side I think it looks quite good like this and I got to ride it this for the first time since buying it a week ago.

Pics below show what I mean.

plastic tanks swell due to the high ethanol content in the gas... so yes, you could say it's normal...

Just keep tapping away with a center punch in the anti clockwise direction and it will come out
