    03 mille cutting out

As the title says i will be riding a lone and lose all power as if the engine was off then it will kick back in at first this only lastest a second or 2 but now it is loosing power totally i pull the throttle back but nothing ther pull in the clutch and the engine will just go dead it wont restart until i turn the key off and turn it back on.

i've had nothing but trouble with this bike since i brought it seriously considering getting rid of it shame as when its working ok i love the bike but its killing my confidence on riding it as i dont know if its going to cut out half way round a corner....

cheers for any info you guys can give

Check all the obvious things like loose wires. I'd take apart all the elecrical connectors and re-join them 1st.
Check the fuses are in there tight and if you can borrow someone elses ECU to see if the fault happens again.
One last daft suggestion. You're not getting a vapour lock in the fuel tank are you?

Dash was on but can't remember seeing anything out ordanary.
When it died &I hit the start button nothing happened at all no noises nothing, until I turned the ignition off.
If it's going to do it then it normally happens between 6-4000 I think
I have had the tank off a few times may be??

It maybe the side stand switch or clutch switch as it sounds me electrical than fuel related.

Pay attention to the kill switch as well, it may need taking apart and cleaning.

i had this with mine a couple of months ago and was not relishing the prospect of going through the electrics with a fine tooth comb.
i read a thread on here about the kill switched so i took it apart, squirted in loads of wd40 and then pressed the button in/out about 50 times whilst topping up with lube.

fingers crossed but the problem hasn't come back yet so i hope i've nailed it.
the kill switch problem occurs more with bikes kept outside, its a low quality switch. someone else recommended packing the switch with some special electrical lube.

if this doesn't help then use the 'search' function and you'll get loads of information on probable causes and whether the fix worked, problems occured etc. much more helpful.

i'd say your list is to check the kill switch and side stand switches as thats easy and if you know anyone with the same bike swap your ecu's to check that i had a very difficult to diagnose problem that followed no pattern and it turned out to be a faulty eprom.

i'll see how i go at the weekend but will let you know.

had a quick look round the bike last night to find the clutch switch was not where it was suppose to be if this was bouncing around behind the handle bars do you think that may course it?

what does the clutch switch do?

after reading and replying to your post my 03 has started doing something similar. Has swine flu mutated into some biotechnic RSV killing disease

In all seriousness though do your clocks reset when it happens if so it may be simply loose battery terminals as griff said, i think mine is a slightly mangled optimate lead.

my mum's boyfriend is a mechanic and he kindly looked at it for me yesterday traced the wiring back from the side stand up to the connector to find that one of the wires had come out and the other was very loose.
fingers crossed this is the cause cheers for all help and suggestions i will keep them in mind if the problem comes back.

now i just need to look at getting the yoshi can on with out the bike over fuelling lol
