New Owner, G'box & EXhaust question

    Hi,
Ive just bought an APRC RSV4 ,only 8 months old with 2,200 miles on. I've come from a K5 Gixer thou & I must admit so far I'm very pleased. Stupidly I didn't do any research,I just saw it,liked it & bought it so I'm still learning lots of things about it. The only thing that is slightly annoying is that when initially setting off after being left overnight it doesn't want to go into 3rd gear, once its gone in its fine, its just that 1st time each day. Is this a common fault I'll have to get used to or does it point to something more sinister?
Also the bike has been fitted with an Akrapovic end can,is there a bracket/hanger you can purchase as I would like to remove the pillion pegs? I've looked on the web but come up blank so far.

    Thanks for any advice,
    Cheers,
    Dill

Think I'll get it checked over at a dealer then, there is an Aprilia dealer not far from me,was just hoping it was going to be a "they all do that sir" type of thing, hate taking cars/bikes in for something I can't do myself..

The end can is bolted to the bottom of the pillion footrest,I want to remove the pillion pegs so I will need something that fastens where the footpeg would & also hold the exhaust up,I had a Harris one for my Suzuki,I thought I'd be able to pick someting similar up for the RSV but no luck as of yet...
    Cheers

I'd dump the oil and replace. I remember on my old RS250 the clutch plates would stick sometimes making shifting a pain initially with thicker oil. Also look for any flakes of metal in the oil in case of damage.

Like most of the latest high power QS equipped bikes (S1000RR, ZX10R) gearboxes & selector mechanisms can be a weak point. I know of one RSV4 Tuono that's due for its second gearbox in a year. I'd get it back to the dealer tout suite, probably nothing to worry about but get it checked thoroughly whilst in warranty.

Thanks for the replies, It seems to have stopped doing it of it's own accord, maybe it was just me getting used to it I'm not sure.. I did change the oil at 3k miles, possibly thats helped.. It's just about ready for its 6k mile service but will still get the dealer to double check for any faults while its there. It also needs the latest map/upgrade installing on the ECU..
I just need to put it back together now as I've just picked up my freshly repaired radiator as a stone burst it last week.. Guards on order..
    Cheers,
    Dill

The manual will say to only use the clutch to change gear below 4500 rpm, this can cause a problem with selector forks wearing, I have done a couple of these. Rev a bit more & enjoy the quickshifter higher up in the rev range. If you have a race can give Windy Corner in Barwell a ring, they can prob remap your ECU to race spec to improve fueling,it also does not use the exhaust valve so that improves driveability as well
