Well. No ones answered so I'll kick off with a few.....

    1. Mirrors....is it me or are they totally useless.....all I can see is my forearms....
    2. Heat from the engine. Just come from a hypermotard which I thought ran hot.....but this one runs way hotter. Got up to 108!!. But I must confess this was in traffic
    3. Comfort....this is the first full on sports bike I've had, I work about 10 miles away and I feel it a little center, top of my back....are they all this way.....fire blades, r1`s etc etc.. I've come from a life of z1000`s, tdr,s, supermoto's.

All that said I love it. I knew it wouldn't be as comfortable....been out on it 3 times and it gets better each time, gonna be a steep learning curve...!

Yea it runs very hot! Just go faster!!
I dont mind the mirrors or the seat and i have rearsets set well high.
Finding neutral is always a pain Lol

Yeah - neutral - thought it was just me.....always with the questions....ive got a 2009 model, can i fit a 200 section rear tyre to it - i read some forum posts where people were chewing over the aspects of geometry etc etc but i thought for an extra fiver for the cost it looked pretty cool...i know the newer ones do but the old ones dont. If i shouldnt then it doesnt matter - just thought id ask the question...

    cheers

should be ok cos yer 2009 is not an APRC model which would need throttle learning, I would just stick with the 190/55 and do the gearing -1F and +2 or 3 R

Annnndddd - another question - reliability - anything to look for? - anything to watch out for? i must confess ive gone through the manuals but didnt look too hard for the service intervals mines got just shy of 3k on it ( late 2009 model ) it got its first and so far only service at just over 1k. 4th time out on it now (using it this week as it sunny all week - then back on the push bike to work) - but with the AustinRacing end can on there to me it sounds like a meaty 350LC with K&N's - does sound the business.

wher are ya based? its bike night tonight AND the sun is shining
Service intervals are evry 6k miles matey., so second service at 6.8k matey

Well, I'm in Bristol. Wife and 3 kids will put a stop to any weekday fun.....hey, another question about changing the mapping....mines set on track at the moment and eaten a full tank of fuel since Saturday - I think I got about 60 miles out of it then I hit reserve....I take it the road mapping should give me marginally better economy?

Also can I switch while riding or no....and does the engine have to run and stationary to change the mapping? Read that somewhere too....

Thanks for all the info so far, has been a lot of help

Stationary to change modes, leave it on T unless you like a strangled throttle.
Yeah theyvare thirsty dude, when thrashing 20 quid will get ya less than 80 miles, for tpuring and mototways it ususally 90-100 before light, only 20 miles in reserve.
Mind you who cares when yer having so much fun!!
Fuel economy can be improved with an updated ecu map apparently, i mever bothered with mine

Yeah - found it this morning - i thought it was all to do with the left hand mode-side of the bars....i did experiment on the way to work this morning changing the modes while i was stopped at lights - the most i could get out of it on either mode was about 40mpg - from what youve said i must be wrong as i topped mine up on saturday rode to work 3 times (20 mile round trip ) and hit the reserve last night on the way home....which equates to about 60 miles out of the tank! - ive gotta be wrong....

So it would seem that changing the modes doesnt do anything for fuel economy - but obviously if youve got more power on tap thats where it goes down....as i said im in Bristol and i think Fowlers is the local aprilia dealer - if i can get the mapping on for not much then i get it done plus im only on it all this week as the weather is nice and its a new toy!

Ive gotta say the power is addictive!

yeah the modes are about power rather than fuel economy, if ya thrash it about the llight will come on very early, 60 does seem a bit low, the worst Ive got is about 70, but town riding and thrashing in 3rd/4th will guzzle fuel, did you top the tank right up?
Let me know how much for the ecu flash matey if you get it done.
Get the gearing done too, its horribly overgeared and you will lose that 'feels like pulling away in second not first' feeling.
    Awesome bike tho!!

Just spoke to a guy at Louigi moto's ( Ducati garage near me ) - although theyve never had an RSV4 in they said there should be no reason they cant get into the ECU - assuming they can they could, they would set a custom map which would cost max 425 quid. They said they wouldnt use a stock map as every bike is different - understandbly which i do agree with....ill see how far this tank of fuel goes....

have a look on CJSracing.co.uk matey they have all the kit and do a full monty work up on the ecu for 400 or a custom ecu remap for 300 (and they know aprilias)
I might go down that route over the winter.
Do a search on the v4 forum at AF1racing.com, lots of threads on the v4's fuel economy (or lack there of) might give you some pointers
    ck

PS- I think ya need either the NAviGator or the Axone systems to play with the v4s ecu

I think theyre one in the same.....i think CJS guy rents a bit of space from Louigi moto's guy......however i did also go down to fowlers to ask about servicing. They said theyd service it for 330 quid (seemed a bit excessive but i think it goes with the territory) he said they check aprilia's site for the latest mappings and apply it then.... 15 minutes extra labour...you'd have thought for that price they'd have chucked it in.

Oh - another question - lowering kit - is there anyone in the uk that does one? mines ok but a couple of inches lower would be nice - would take the weight off my wrists a little - not looking forward to next years trip to the TT - gonna be a back breaker....

I'd like to add a newbie question:

can this 2012 RSV4 Factory APRC really not be switched to GP shift pattern? dealer said it couldn't because of quickshift, but I am hard-pressed to believe no one runs a GP pattern with quickshift. I've been running my Gixxer with GP shift for several years and I not only am used to it, I vastly prefer it. I haven't had my RSV4 to the track yet, but really would love to figure out how to go GP shift before I do. Any help out there? Thanks!

Sorry pally.....mines the original one with just the 3 maps......on the plus side I managed to get 85 miles out of a tank the other day.....another curve ball question while were here.....I had the fairing off mine the other day giving it a clean and just next to the oil filter I've got what looks like a bit of samco hose cut off, folded back and tie wrapped as if to block something off....I looked on the owners manual and it shows it as a numbered point but makes no reference that I can see although the pic in the manual looks like a sensor or something.....I took a pic of it if anyone wants to see but posting pics I always find a pain in the arose on forums....any one has any clues?
