    2004 RSV 1000 Factory - Ignition Coils

    Hi

Does anyone know what type of ignition coils are used on the RSV 1000 Factory?

Are they CDI ( Capacitor Discharge) or the more traditional style of Inductive Ignition?

Also is it a Constant Charge or Constant Duty type of coil.

I need this info to set up an aftermarket EMS on the enigne.

    cheers

The very early bikes were inductive !00% but i believe the later bikes (post 2000) went CDI but that is not Gospel so don't take my word for it.

To qoute the brochure from 2002

CDI capacitor discharge ignition combined with Twin Spark Ignition (TSI) with two spark plugs per cylinder.

i just don't trust brochures but the 98/99 service manual qoutes inductive so i'm happy that is right for those years.

yes the 04 bikes have coil packs as you probably know whereas earlier models were seperate.

I'm fairly confident the 2004 packs were CDi but just not confident enough to say do it in case it goes pop.

Argh ... more problems then... the EMS that i am looking at is perfect , it is tiny so fits in the small space i have to work with, it does the odd fire timing i need and the sequential injection but it will not run CDI coils.... Doh!

It is proving very difficult to find and EMS that will do everything... Or i can try to find some after market high performance inductive coils, any ideas? What about off another type of V-twin ?

    Cheers

    Hi Spoonz

More questions about the 2004 RSV factory coils?

What i know from futher investivagtion.

    1) the coils are povided a constant +12v power supply direct from the main fusebox on a 15 amp fuse.

    2) there are 2 wires from the OEM ECU one from each coil inthe pack, i believe that the ECU provides each coils with a ground via these wires.

This kinda looks like a config for Inductive coils ? with the ECU controlling the dwell/firing time via the ground wire, is that how it works?

How does this config compare/differ from the 2002 CDI twin plug version you mentioned?

    Thanks

    John
