    Chain & Sprockets

I've had a good search on here about chain and sprockets but still unsure.

I need to order my chain and sprockets today. Going for the 16/44 but the chain length is getting to me. So people say 108 as it will just fit and others say 110.

If I fit the 110, how much play will I have to adjust it as the chain stretches? If the 108 is fitted, would I insist on the local shop that it will fit

Would like to pop over to Griffs to get it done but a bit of trek

Lastly, Any good place to get it ordered from?

Like others said both will fit, with 108 you have a shorter wheelbase, at the beginning to the minimum, than it al depends on how much will the chain strech (it will at the beginning).

With the 110, you be close to the middle marker and then the chain will strech a bit, so longer wheelbase.

Shorter wheelbase means quicker steering but les stability, BUT for the street it doesnt matter, whatever you choose it will be fine , since you wont notice the diference

For the track, well, to each his own, I have 110 links and I would prefer a bit shorter wheelbase, my ideal would be 109

Not sure if this helps but my bike had 15/44 fitted when I bought it and the adjustment was somewhere near the middle. I changed the front sprocket to a 16 and the chain adjustment was right at the front and a bit tight. I wasn't happy with this so bought a 42 rear and it's spot on now, about 1/3 of the way back. I would go for the longer option - you can always remove a link if it's too long

YEah think its going to be the 110 for me. Just got to find the 44 rear sprocket for a good price now.

i'm running 16/45 and its fine for the road so you could try that with 110 links, the slightly larger sprocket will bring the rear wheel slightly towards the front to allow for any stretch. in reallity it's probably not a problem.

16/45 is ideal on a 110 link chain as it brings the wheel to about 1/3 back from fully forward.

108 link and 16/44 is a little bit of a gamble as to whether it will fit. Some have had success some haven't. It may depend on chain manufacturer as to the differences in actual chain length.

Griff should be able to supply the correct chain and sprockets to your spec. Renthal hard anodized rear is a must along with a heavy duty x ring 525 chain from either DID, Renthal, Tsubaki or AFAM

Be aware that you will need to split your own chain and rivet on the new one with the correct tooling unless the chain is supplied with a split link. Bank on about 130 for the chain and sprocket set

Talon are fine, i'm just not sure of the surface treatment for longivity. It says anodized silver, not sure if this is a hard anodizing process as per the renthal sprockets. The best sprockets are the supersprox sprockets which use an alloy centre and steel teeth, thought they are around 45 so a little more expensive
