    Bike cutting out

Hi, I have an RSV1000R 2006 model. I've only had it 5 weeks and because of the shit weather and being away with work only covered 250 miles so in all it's got 8,250 on the clock. I love the bike to bits and I've had no trouble at all except the back lighting on the clocks was intermittent but found a lose connection which fixed it. Anyway went for a ride this afternoon and it was great for 15 miles then when turning off at a junction and going down through the gears the engine cut out. Didn't realise it had cut out at first and when I let the clutch out in second the back wheel locked and I nearly ended up on my arse. This carried on for the ride home and was pretty scary. Just after it started to cut out (about 2 miles later) the fuel warning light came on don't know if this was a coincidence or not. Put more fuel in near home ran it for another 5 miles and all was well again.

Has anyone else suffered this and if so what's the fix? The bike ticks over normally at about 1250 rpm when warm and runs at about 78 to 82C. No other warning lights came on and when accelerating it didn't miss a beat. Just kept cutting out as I decelerated and went down through the gears. It would restart each time no problem but would not tick over.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks mate sounds like a similar thing. I will see how it runs whilst there is plenty of fuel and then see what happens when the fuel light comes on again. I'll let you know.

It was supposedly serviced before I got it with new plugs but I will check them if the problem shows up again. I just worry it's going to be one of those really nasty intermittent faults which are a nightmare to fix.

Its more than likely either the fuel pipe problem as indicated in the link ( spoonz's reply ) posted by wavey or it's simply the throttle bodies need setting up correctly for the correct CO2 readings. If these are out it will cause stalling especially coming up to junctions when going down the gearbox.

Also have you race cans fitted? An aprilia dealer will need to hook the bike up to Axone diagnostics and check MAP 2 is activated for race cans or MAP 1 is activated for standard cans.

Thanks Legs your right I may need to get the mapping checked. The bike has got standard cans on but I don't know if it had race cans fitted and the standard ones put back on before it was sold. What's involved with the set up of the throttle bodies? Do you have to get a dealer to sort this out or can you check yourself? As for the fuel pipe problem does this just require the pipe to be replaced? I guess I will go through the cheap/easiest options first and eliminate each potential problem until I find the cause.

Sorry I'm asking so many questions and really do appreciate everyone's help.

Phil, i'm not sure, and someone else may clarify this but i think the fuel pipe is a product recall for 06 model year bikes.

The throttle bodies need setting up at a dealer using Axone.

    points to check with dealer

Latest fuel MAP from Aprilia is loaded?

Set correct MAP for the cans in use. If you're going to fit race cans, wait till you fit them, othewise you'll have to go through the whole precedure again

Set correct CO2 for each cylinder

Thanks again lads for your help it really is great having people help you out like this. I will call an Aprilia dealer to find out if the fuel pipe is a re-call for the 06 model and let you know if it is. If it happens again I'm going to get it looked at as even though I'm strapped for cash, like we all are right now, it's bloody dangerous to ride when it happens.

May sound stupid but check battery terminals are tight, a few years ago my 02 would cut out and that was traced to a loose terminal, tightened it up and never gave a problem after, its probably not causing your problem but worth a quick check
