01 Jan 10 - first ride of the year - salt corrosion?

Hi all and happy New Year!

On the first day of the new decade... sun was out... had to take the RSVR out for a blast (on the way to work!?)

Bit icey in places but still managed to wind it up a bit on the min roads!

Now home again i should clean the salt off.

What is the worst place (most common place) that suffers from salt corrosion on a 08? It is snowing so I can't spend hours cleaning it, so I need to know where to concentrate my efforts.

Hope others made it out too on the first day of the year

Have a good one safe riding

    TT

Not sure if it matters which year, however you can always bet the the rear suspension linkages etc will cop a hammering from the weather

use cold water to wash the salt off. Hot or even warm water will activate the corrosive parts in the salt.

Wash the whole bike immediately after you get home with cold water, then treat all over with a winter protective spray like FS365

just keep it in the garage and enjoy still being able to walk. I'm from Wi where it snows 5 months out of the year and I wouldn't dare take it out until all the salt the ice has been washed off the roads by at least one good rain. There's just too many variables out there when you still have salt and ice on the roads to justify a brisk ride to work.

yeah, the good bike stays nice and comfy this time of year - I still ride, but thats what the hack is for You're not gonna be any faster round here at the mo on an RSV than you would be on an old XT, plus you can enjoy the hack more coz you dont have to keep worrying about corrosion or dropping it.
