    Hi

I am returning to biking after about years and decided to get the bike I have always dreamed of sinse I pasted my CBT at the age of 20, a RSV Mille. I have shopped around and conveniently a well known local dealer (not Aprilia) is selling an 02 plate Mille with 18k on the clock with full sevice history for 2.5k and in excellect condition considering its 10 years old. I am not sure whether this is good deal or not but looking around on the internet it does appear quite a good deal. I went to go a look at the bike but it is currently awaiting a part to be repaired. Apparently he referred to it as the sprag part as it won't start. After looking into this it is one of the commen problems with Milles.

I had a quick look at the history, a pile of reciepts for repairs, old MOTs, so on and so on. However, what did concern me was the number of owners, 7 to be exact. I can't recall the number of owners of my previous bikes but this does appear quite high.

I haven't heard it running yet and the sales person said he will contact me with first refusal as soon as the work is done. However, I am concerned I may be buying someone elses probems.

Is the number of owners a concern?
Is this a deal to good to be true considering is being sold by a dealer?

be realistic. there is no 2002 bike with 18 000 miles. maybe on the clock. if it does not start dont believe it is just the sprag as it can be anything else... anyway 2500 for a 99-03 mille in UK seems to be quite usual. do not expect miracles you might need to spend some cash to make it run
    considering this one? http://rsvzone.com/forums/showthread...Mille-for-sale

    Thanks for your quick response.

That is what my old man advises me, the number of owners is a big concern for him.

Has this spent half its life in a garage? Not sure...

Not sure what u would consider as average milage for the age. But I have seen examples of both privet and trade sales with extrmely low mileage especially sports bikes. A lot calculating at about 2k per year with many examples with full service history and MOT's to back them up.

I will note your feedback, it is appreciated.

mate mine has had 7 owners and 26k

people often dont like twins so sell quick and you may also dislike it and sell it ?

but if you are a twin fan this is as foooking cracker

bike wont start if the sprags gone so see what its like when its back together.

2.5k from a dealer is fine and 15-2000k private or more if its a real good mint bike 2 owner etc.

judge it on its merits not what you read here etc.

and above all else be patient and you will get the bike you want .

hope you get the bike and we will look forward to you view on millie ownership.

pauls bike for sale above is a stonker go see it and hurt his arm
    good luck

    Thanks for the reponse,

I know it has probably been listed here before but tbh I have been reviewing bikes half the day and I am completely wacked from reading.

Is there anything I should watch out for or check to see if its been done or not?

    Thanks

Hi mate welcome my bike has also had 7 previous owners.........I purchased privately for 1800 knocked him down from 2000 with 20k on the clock and some service history The bike had not really been messed with and is very clean and I love it.............

I think a lot of peeps buy a twin coming from jap il4's and can't get on with them ( bit like going from driving a petrol sports car to a diesel) if its got MOT & service records with mileage throughout its life then I would say its fine, sprags very common faliure due to the nature of needing a tip top battery and lots of cold cranking amps to push the too large 500cc slugs up n down, so if the batts not on form it will knacker the sprag very easy..........

I think though you want it mint for 2500 even if it is from a dealer..........has it got any trik/hop up bits on it as they will end up costing a small fortune if thats your perogative........

The bike i would class as clean with the exceptions of the odd stone chips. Tbh I haven't seen the side panels as they had been removed awaiting the part. It doesn't have any trick parts, if i did get it I would propose on a tinted screen and defo a race can, got to be done...

Is there anything I should watch put for On these?

Well thats gonna set u back about 150 to 300 extra for starters depending on whether you buy new or secondhand bits.
You did not state whether this mille was an 'r' or not with the ohlins/oz wheels and carbon bits....?
May be wiser to buy secondhand and take a mechanically minded friend with you for a 2nd opinion and look for 1 that already has hop up parts done to it......make sure you get the standard bits/can with it too for MOT time!! Maybe also for 2.5k you might be a ble to bag an 'r' version if this 1 your looking at isn't 1 already...

This is just the standard version, no ohlins or lovely carbon stuff. Suppose the bonus is it will have the sprag done. Was going to knock them down anyway but by what u are saying I can get a lot more for my money.

    Hi tyanton

As you're probably gathering by now, 2500 should buy you a very good condition Mk1 RSV (or even an R)
Don't buy a lemon, 2500 is a lot to pay for a standard bike with 7 owners and current problems.
Get a good one mate, it's a buyers market
    Cheers and good luck
