    Another newbie owner

    g'day

picked up a 2000 rsv mille today and thought i should pop along to the forum and say hi, think my back brake is gonna need some attention as it does nothing at the moment but other than that im very pleased with the bike.

I owned a vtr1000 previously and it gave me the taste for another big V

anyways thats all for now... unless anyone knows how to stop the alarm chirping every 30secs (think it may cause insanity with prolonged exposure)

    welcome

back brake notorious for being rubbish..some people are lucky and have one that works..you need to take off the caliper and hang it as high as possible and bleed

m/c is next to exhaust ..best bet is rearsets that relocate m/c

There's a thread on bleeding the back brake, but there still not much use when they work
Sounds like your alarm is in maintinance mode, what make is it with mine you just blip it with the ignition off & after 30 seconds it resets itself & stops chirping

thanks you both for the info regarding the back brake.

the alarm seems to have stopped chirping now, think you are correct about maintenence mode. i'll have to find the manual and have a read tomorow see how it operates

Welcome, mate! My rear brake was dead too - as RedRat says, try the bleeding technique that he suggests (searchy will help) or http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...r-Brake-Issues

I also swapped the master cylinder, but it MAY have been ok. And since I fitted a set of Aprilia Performance rearsets and relocated teh m/c, and bled as per the link, I've had no issues

With my datatool alarm you blip it once (& it chirps once)to deactivate then turn the ingition on. When the ignition is turned off it arms itself after 30 seconds by chirping twice & if you want to work on the bike without the alarm going off all the time (maintinence mode) you blip it once, turn on ignition, blip it again (& it chirps once) now in maintinance mode (chirps every 30 seconds) once you've finished blip it again & it arms itself after 30 seconds by chirping twice

seems i have the same alarm (datatool possibly s3, was this the default fitment on these bikes?)
I am just reading through the datatool manual i found on the datatool website as i was hoping to disable the alarm before i goto bed, it has gone off once already and i can only imagine my popularity with my neighbours plumeting as i keep them awake through the night. possibly the motion sensor is too sensative and being set off by the wind?

It does not seem possible not to use the alarm as it activates itself 30 secs after the ignition is tuned off. but it seems you can deactivate the motion sensor by pressing the disarm button (left button) while the alarm is armed, though it does not say how long this disarmed state lasts. I hope untill the bike is started.

Maybe im worrying too much, but every other bike I have had with an alarm fitted has proven nothing but trouble

On a plus side i dont need to be in work till late tomorow afternoon, so plenty of time to bleed the rear brake and make good use of the fine sunny weather

Not sure if this post/photo helps or not but this rear brake configuration works very well….no issues (2007 RSV)
