    Indicator Issues, please help..

    Hi guys,

I have an 03 plate Mille. Yesterday, my indicators threw a wobbler. As sitting on the bike, left indicator brings all 4 indicators online (FL,BL,FR and BR). However FR does not light up, but shows voltage going up and down in time with other indicators.

If I activate right indicator, the BR indicator comes on permenantly, and still the FR does not light up (although voltage goes to indicator permenantly).

I have swapped bulbs to check. It's not the bulb on the FR. With the flasher relay off the bike, and operating the bulbs via the alarm, I still get no light on the FR.

The flasher relay is noisy when operating, but surely if it was the flasher relay, then taking it out would have given me back my light when operating the alarm...

Oh dear, tracing down an earth fault on the RSV's interesting wiring. Ho hum. Maybe the GND coming back off the bulb? What do you think?

Are they standard indicators with standard wattage bulds? That can cause 'em to throw a hissy fit sometimes.

I always believe in the Occam's razor idea. In simple terms go with the most likely so I would start by eliminating the obvious. Waggle bulbs clean contacts look for visible breaks etc then start thinking about the rest. If nothing else I find it let's me ignore a problem for a few days more. Kind of like turning the radio up in the car ... Assuming its not the radio that's broke

Yeah, their standard bulbs and standard indicators. The flasher is a 12V - 10W-3,4. I had it working again breifly last night after bashing the flasher, but I think this might be a red herring as the sympoms occur whether the flasher is in or out (via activating indicators with alarm).

Is it possible to swap your flasher relay with another one to eliminate that? Has a wire rubbed through the sleeve somewhere and is intermitantly grounding?
Probably not being much help but trying to eliminate some stuff before you start screaming!

Um, not got a spare flasher to hand and trying to find a senisble prices equivilent is proving to be a mare - any suggestions. One thing I did notice it that my flasher specifies 10W bulbs, yet my bike has 23W bulbs in it, but's been working fine, might this account for the noisy flasher though. My rear lights are LED.

It was this configuration when I brought it and I've changed nothing. It's just decided to throw a wobbler.... Grrrr

I'll check the wiring on the indicator tomorrow - it's a bit dark and gloomy here to do it tonight.

Ok guys, don't know if I'm right or wrong on this one, but I have checked the indicator switch, it seems to be fine and dandy, however, I have continuity on all three wires constantly. Traced this back to the main console (dash). If I unplug the dash, my left fires my left indicators, and my right brings up the rear right (which still stays constantly on) but still no front right, but at least their not all flashing at the same time anymore.

So, I then narrowed if down to the light that flashes on and off when the indicators are on. With the bulb out, the above scenario still occurs,

The bulb looks fine.. Maybe a breakdown on the socket or still the flasher unit itself causing my grief?

Also, would the fact that the bike has 23W bulbs in it on the front and LED's on the back cause the flasher to break down - I know it has been working untill last week...
