    First V-Twin experience - nube posting

    Hi all;
    Having been a member of various bike-specific communities I know how annoying new members are when they start asking the same shit you have been over a million times. However having tried to find answers to a few immediate questions I have as a new owner of a 2005 RSVR (picked up a minter with 5K miles on it!), I still have a few unanswered questions: 1) what's the "red line" for these engines - the shift light goes mental from ~7K, but is there an actual safe limit for this bike? 2) is it possible to swap the controls on the left side for something with conventional layout of horn at the bottom and turn signals at the top - I had some damage to my left hand (no, not from overuse) so I can't feel the controls very well and keep hitting the horn when trying to indicate right - it is driving me nuts. 3) Can anyone recommend some aftermarket mirrors that work? 4) (the BIG one) the bike came with two sets of cans - visually exactly the same but one with baffles and one without. The baffle-less cans sound like a jumbo jet taking off and although it's kinda cool the bike gets seriously vibey and the popping on closed throttle to me sounds like the fueling needs adjusting. On the other hand, the baffled pipes sound like shit, but the bike runs SO much better - it becomes the machine it should be: smooth, but still plenty responsive without being unpredictable... Any advice on cans that sound good and neighbor/track-friendly (in the UK common noise limit for track days is 102db static) and are not going to need a dyno? Talking about fueling - is there an FI module for RSVR (I use Helatech for my gixxers, but they don't do one for Aprilia) that comes pre-loaded with filter/pipe-specific maps?
    Also (rhetorical question) why the f*ck are the frame sliders for Aprilia so expensive - like twice the price of the ones I buy for my Japanese bikes!
    Cheers!
    Max

    On the second query not seen anything on modified controls however I'm sure if you really wanted you could modify some jap crap to suit. They're not canbus or anything special

    Point 3 no idea
    Point 4 sounds like you need the throttle bodies balanced and adjusted and the map settings checked. Get in touch with Griff and the lads at AP in Tamworth

    I use akras on mine and they are sweet just don't use stubbies V twins don't like it.
    I suspect once you've spoken to Griff and you've had a tune you won't need an FI module.
    Frame sliders are more expensive cause apes don't use standard box section like others so the sliders have to be formed to fit

    Very nice bike, I have a rsv factory 2005 and its really greate, however the only disadvantage is that it needs some changes in order to increase mid range rev such as exhausts, air filter, open the air box and second stage ecu map.

    Hi. I have a 2005 factory. Its a great bike although the switchgear layout does my head in too. Almost the opposite to my honda. Plus whenever i turn full left lock the horn goes of and gives me a heart attack ;-) how do i find out if my ecu is on the second stage?

    Hello, the first thing I changes to my bike was the clutch slave I instal an oberon and everything is OK now. Another thing that you can do is to change the position of the left buttons in order not to hit the horn, and finally go to an aprilia dealer to check if you have map 2 installed.

    Thanks tedyboy. One of the things i didnt realise when i bought the bike is how few people/bike shops specialise in aprilias. Aprilia performance are about a five hour ride away :-(

    Unfortunately this is true thus, we have to learn to do many things by our own. Five hours?

    Give Lewis or Spanish Al a call at the shop. There is usually a service tour down your way. If not Come up for the open day and stay over.

    Also worth checking out the Facebook page plenty of people to assist and support
