    Touring Scotland

Did a tour on the ZX9R back in 2002. keep saying i am going to bring the wife up for her first visit since then. Well next week it's time, all be it in the car. far too far for her to go on the back of the RSVR all the way from Essex.
Now we have been given the use of a house in Stirling, which is close to where i stayed last time. however i appreciate the need to travel around. I intend to take her to some of the places i visited on the bike, Glen coe, loch lomand, Oban , rest and be thank full, pitlochery, speen bridge, and Loch ness. but on my previous trip i didn't manage to get up to the north west coast, around ullapool. can any of you lads that live in the area recommend places to visit towns, roads etc. if we get a chance weather permitting we are going to try and get up Ben nevis and some other walks, and spend some time in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
i know Black Sabbath was up there a couple of weeks ago, where abouts can you recommend BS.

A82 that runs from glasgow to inverness is a great ride, especially through the mountains and down the side of loch ness

Have a look at this slideshow of mine, this is all the west coast and gives you road numbers for routes, blinding roads and stunning scenery

I will be up there on the bike at the beginning of July

Lok up Applecross, it is a peninsula that runs up towards Ullapool, you will not regret it

Hero I was not on a bike but in a Bentley continental which is a kick ass car, so is about as close as you can get to a bike on four wheels I guess. I went from Glasgow to a castle called Colzean Castle (pronounced "coleen" i think) in Ayrshire which is on the lower west coast of Scotland. I can tell you bro I was begging for the bike on some of the roads but the Bentley softened the blow lol! Didn't get north of Glasgow but I hear the roads are good I will say tho, one day I will take a bike up to Cumbria and ride around the lake district. Those roads are crackers.

Cheers BS, going up on Wednesday. will be going further north than you. Can't agree more about the roads. went up on the ZX9R in 2002. had a quality week. even the weather was kind. This trip i am planning to go even further north and go to Skye ullapool, and out in the wilds. i'm taking the new turbo diesel sport civic. laps up the twisty's, looking forward to it. if the weather is kind, and can find a cheap B&B around Fort William, am looking at having a bash at Ben Nevis. if not we will do some walking around the coast.

Culzean castle was a good day out with the family, great weather too and canons everywhere so I was able to impress the kids with my joke about the bloke who installed them getting fired

Just back from the trip. 2131 miles covered, door to door. Fairly lucky with the weather, managed to dodge allot of it. Was not disappointed with the west coast. Thanks Posh J for the applecross idea. What a wounderful place. Went in via the north coastal route and came back via the south pass. BREATH TAKING. Dolphin watching at Channory point was well worth the trip. The run from Dornock to Ullapool A836 A837 was excellent, As was the A835, A832 to Gairloch, A896 from kinlochewe to Sheildaig, then the run round Applecross was sublime. A890 to Isle of Skye, drive round Skye was out of this world, had a quality night in Uig. Ferry to Mallaig, lot of road works for the first few miles leaving Mallaig but after that the road was excellent to fort william. Good run up to Fort Augustus where i had my first Haggis neeps and tatties. Then came the evening run back from Fort Augustus to Onich and over Glen coe before running back across the A85 /A84 back to Callander and then back to the house in Larbert. other places visited were Pitlochery Queens view, Oban, rest and be thankfull, Inverara, Carricky, Tarbet Garelochhead, aberfoyle. Stirling castle and wallace monument were well worth a visit, the Falkirk wheel was impressive but shut when we got there, and a day in Edinburgh was not long enough.
All in all a top holiday, lots of sight seeing crammed in to seven days, and to boot spent a night in a working lighthouse. deffinatley going to organise another trip next year with the bike.
A big thanks to Badger for the ideas of places to go.
