    gear box issues

hi guys, i got a question for ya all!

my 99 rsv is having issues with second gear. when i power on slowly it stays in gear, if i crack the throttle wide open it jumps out of second and straight into neutral. Any ideas what it could be, an how to sort it?

worn selector dogs matey,? or the Clutch needs a bleed?, whats the mileage like?, mebbe the prev owner was a bit hamfisted. My 47k mille is starting to get worn gears too.

Try bleeding the clutch first but it's almost certainly an engine out and gearbox stripdown.

Have had this on other bikes and it was always a bent selector Best to get it sorted b4 ya blow 2nd gear..as this is usually the outcome.

the bikes done 430000 miles, its had a hard life, but still going strong. My first thought was that the prev owner was a bit of a wheelie merchant using second gear all the time, but i guess with the bike being so old it hasnt had anythin done to the clutch, i know its been bled a little while ago as I had to replace the pressure plate a couple of months ago.

So what exactly is happening with your gears?

    cheers

As the lads above say..try bleeding the clutch up first..start at the cheap end of investigation first
Bent selector usually comes about from slamming into 2nd gear coming across neutral. If the clutch was not unloading cleanly then changing from first to 2nd will be under load and potential to tweak selector. If the previous rider was into 1st geat wheelies and punching 2nd gear hard with or without clutch, then that will surely bend the selector. Good luck with identifying problem.
