    How much Engine oil??

So I'm doing my first oil change and I don't want to over fill it (like the shop that serviced it for me last time did).

When I checked my manual, it said this nonsense for engine oil capacity:

    Oil change 225.788 in3 (3700 cm3) - oil and oil filter change 237.993 in3
    (3900 cm3)

    Whaa?

be careful on refilling, with filter change its 3.9 litres without 3.7, you need to fill up then run the bike for 10-20 mins before rechecking (and it needs to be a ride not static), if you fill up the oil till it shows full the run for 5 mins as usual it shows low and you keep topping up till you over fill. I should know ended putting 4.5 litres in and had to siphon out the 0.6, when the oil cost 45 for 4 litres it gets a bit expensive to waste! There is a good thread on the AF1 site if that helps. Hope this helps you out!

    cheers

    p.s 1 litre = 1.05 quart!

The best way to get the oil right on these bikes is via adding 3 litres of oil, go for a spin down the road, at least 5 minutes.

Come back and hold the bike upright, switch off the engine and watch the oil level in the viewing tube.

If you can't see any oil add in small quantities until you can, allowing a few minutes in between adding the oil to allow it to find its level in the reservoir.

As soon as you can see oil on the viewing tube then stop and road test again.

When you have ridden for 10 minutes minimum than stop and recheck the level and top up as required.

Yes I know it's a pain to get the oil level right but with practice and time you'll have it down to a fine art and it'll take minutes.

Thanks guys. I had a shop do it 3 weeks ago and they over filled it. Now there is a leak from up on the inside of the oil reservoir. I'm taking it to the dealer today.
