Well hooked it up to full battery and although there is obviously plenty of charge going through it it just wont fire up. Am not going to keep trying to start it holding the button as its just going to flatten the battery out again. So could it be the starter solenoid?? Just checking the brown wiring just now, i have a brown connector wiring near the top right hand side of the fairing near the horn. That looks ok, so i shall check the wiring connector behind coolant bottle now. Is there anyway to check the starter motor solenoid?? where again is this situated??

Daz, my bike died about 3 months ago just when I arrived at work. I was able to get it running and checked the charge voltage and it was only 11.5V, I was able to get a car battery and charge it enough to ride it home. As I was low on fuel I could not stop because I new if it stopped It would not start. While I was ridding the red warning Tirangle was comming on and the bike was dieing (can't spell). Anyway I had to disconnect the lights while ridding and the bike started running OK again.Just made it home. Was able to get it to the bike shop the next day and they had my baby for three months as there where no spares in italy or Aus. The problem was the Stator and regulator.Made me also wonder how many Rsv's are having this problem and I shoud be looking at the Mods recomended by the guys for my wiring. I was that pissed I could not even come on the sight as i missed my bike so much, all around me were living in hell.I was even thinking of an 1198, now my baby is back everybody is happy , I have a big smile on my face and I'm happy as a pig in shit! Hope Yours is not the stator.Steve

Hi bbstevebb, this is sounding to familiar to me now...Exactly what happened to my bike riding along and then cut out with red triangle warning sign on. I have since charged the battery overnight, reading 12.1 now on dial. I have checked the two brown connectors for any melting, nothing but i will still making the connection better, av now just done the old bridgeing of the starter solenoid and still wont fire up but its so nearly there. Now i think your saying the starter motor?? However the chap at Kickstart in Port talbot, still thinks it could be the battery..As he came across the exact same problem on a newish bike recently. But surely 12.1 would be adequate enough...HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

Daz, not the starter motor , the stator and regulator in the electrical cicuit. I do not have enough elect. knowledge to help but It sound like you have a similar Problem.
    Steve , Good luck!

Ah FFS!!!! this is doing my nut in now!!!! Went through all the possibilties that everyone has suggested and it was just doing what it had been turning over but not firing up, so then i decided to change the spark plugs and see if they could bring some light to this. It started and was running fine, warning light went away and i left it running. Let it heat up gave it a few twits and although it was running i noticed that it was popping more from the exhausts than normally. Stuck it in gear went down the road, turned around came back up and she cut out, this time the warning light came on again, so i switched it off again and tried to start it up.......Its doing the bloody thing again nothing. I also noted that this is a brand new battery and the voltage was dropping down rather than going up on it, so something is pulling the voltage down on the bike. I am told it should be sitting in the 13's when idling, this is definately in the 11's. Please can someone now know what is wrong?

1 That you havent tried yet, and this is a ringer for my ecu starter problem

Anyone else on the forum from the same part of wales can pop round and do a swap to test?.

Will stick my spare chip in the post for you to test

Olek thanks for the offer here mate, but apparently the chap Dr Rossi has just pm'd me saying that he modify's eprom chips. And the newer model bike has no modify chip to replace as its all built into ecu. So the chip you have will not be compatible. Thank you for your suggestion Olek anyway.... I am now starting to think that it is the regulator on the bike thats packed up and is pulling the power from the battery..could this be the reason I just been on the phone to my mate, who has new model factory. He clearly stated to me that with the ignition turned on the bikes voltage was 12.1 and then when started it was 13.6/7. Its quite clear that my bike is dropping when started down to the low11's and even 10.6. When this happens the bike cuts out and the red triangle warning light is coming on. So is it the regulator possibly??

Daz mate, sounds like you have no output from your stator or rectifier.

Your voltage at idle should be 13.8V or more.

Recheck all fuses, make sure that they are in good condition, no corrosion on the terminals etc....

I don't know how good you are with a multimeter etc... but it looks like you're going to have to start checking the connections in the charging circuit then checking the stator outputs which will be in AC and the rectifier outputs which will be in DC.

    PS. PM sent in response.

Daz, as promised the docs I have on what I suspect is wrong with your RSV.

Check that your fuses are all intact first, then the connectors in the charging circuit are all ok then check the stator output - AC voltage if that's ok then the rectifier output voltage - DC.

Look here too for the workshop manual for your RSV. Click Me

Daz, sounds like your heading in the right direction now with the stator & regulator, though,I would also get rid of the brown connectors. The lecky wizzes here should be able to get you through. Its a Fffnnn C____t, almost breaks your heart, did my head in. I can't really tell you more than I described, the bike was not charging the battery and was only running on what juice the battery had. Good luck mate. Steve

Well i hope am heading in the wright direction now, was also told the ecu immobiliser unit could be faulty, although the datatool alarm has been removed i was not aware of the immob ecu?? Does anybody no anyone in the south wales area that they would reccommend, on how i can test the stator and if the correct voltage is running through it all, to find out exactly what is the cause?? Am not very confident with electrical readings etc. Ok mechanically but not confident in electric testing
