    Brake Bleed No Good...

    Hi Guys,

I bled my front brake on the weekend using the nice swanky Silkolene Dot 4 racing fluid.

I popped the front wheel out, forced the pads back into the caliper and used the traditional bleed method even though i used a bleed kit with a non-return valve (i.e nip bleed nipple shut, release lever, open nipple, squeeze lever).

After running a full litre of fluid through it and putting the bike back together my brake is still crap.

I bungeed the lever back with the reservoir cap off to allow air to rise, but it's still rubbish.

What did I do wrong? I noticed the other bleed nipple on the master cylinder- should i have bled it through there?

Or have I just screwed a seal somewhere and it's letting air in?

This is driving me crazy! I want to ride at Brands next week but can't with this awful front brake.

It sounds as though there may be some air left in the master cylinder.
Try holding the lever in and cracking the master cyl bleed nipple to get the last bit of air out. The usual warning about brake fluid and paintwork /cloths apply.

Ok, so talk me through this...

take off reservoir cap, attach rubber tube, apply pressure to the lever and then open the nipple?

Or open nipple and then squeeze the lever, then close the bleeder?

(cheers for the swift answer though guys)

This is the way I would do it.......use a zip tie to hold the lever on tight. Leave the cap on.Put your ring spanner around the nipple. cover the nipple with an old rag. Crack the nipple open and then close it again. Try the brake for feel. Either that or attach a one way bleeder and bleed it as you would the bottom nipple. I mention the first way cos it shouldnt take much to get the air out.
