    rsvr front wheel problem

hi, this is my 1st post so here goes.

i have an 02 rsvr and i have problem with the position of my front wheel in the forks. it seems to sit more to the left if looking from the front and this is offsetting the discs so they are further too the left in the calipers. i think this has caused the discs to warp as there is a judder when braking also on the right disc it has been catching the caliper slightly on the pad guides.also it has worn the ones closest to the disc more than the others so i have had to swap them around. is there only meant to be one sapcer on the left and i have the spindle going in from the right to left again looking from the front. also my wheel is on the correct way round so it can't be that. any ideas anyone, your help is much appreciated

There is one spacer on the throttle side and the spindle goes in from the clutch side, you must tighten things up in the order below to align the spindle and allow things to centre so as not to cause stiction

Put the spindle back in pop the big nut on the end, and torque the pinch bolts to 12 nm (critical as if you overtighten it will crack the fork caliper carrier) on the clutch side first, then torque the spindle nut to 80nm, now slacken the pinch bolts and grab the front brake and bounce the front end up and down vigorously a few times, this will centre and align the forks/spindle, then torque all the pinch bolts up.
    Have a look here

cheers for that. i usually tighten clutch side pinch bolts then torque spindle nut but then bounce and tighten throttle side pinch bolts. i guess i should try slackening pinch bolts before bouncing. i messured the space between the wheel and the fork i.e width of spacer and on the left side it was 7.5mm and the right was 11mm, does this sound right.

If you look at the diagram in the link you will see there is only one spacer (2) if you have this in the correct side and torque the pinch bolts the way i said it can't be any other way, if you have pads worn on one side check the pistons are free in the calipers

i know that is what is puzzeling me. i have done what you said to no avail. does anyone else have a bigger gap between the wheel and fork on one side than the other. the end of the axle is flush with the fork bottom and all seems straight just not the wheel position. i cant think of a reason why it would suppose to be like this, it means the wheel allignment would be wrong.

measure from the fork leg to the top of the brake disc each side, i am sure you will find it is the same

measure the spacer and see if someone with a model similar can do the same to check the size, mine are later models, probably the same but not 100% sure about that

well i was up heartside today and had a look at other rsvr's and the gap between the spacer was bigger on theirs than mine. i am thinking that maybe some non genuine wheel bearings may have been fitted which may be slightly less in thickness around 1-2mm thinner causing the wheel to sit more to one side.
