Going to change the sprag clutch on my 00 millle but..

As my sprag clutch has seen it's days (starter motor just spinns without engaging).

Queston 1. It is normaly just the sprag clutch and housing that has to be changed? Not the gear also i hope?

Question 2. Was looking on the price of the assembly at AF1 Racing and this was mention there

"The installation of this assembly is an advanced operation, if you are not comfortable with torque specs and adjusting your own valves, you should not attempt to install this assembly."

Adjusting the valves? What has that to do with the sprag assembly?
I have the Haynes manual for the mille, but can't remember to read about valve adjustment on that repair.

I'll go for the BMW sprag and the original aprilia housing, hope that will be enough. Going to measure the the gear also to see if it is within the specc. Hope it is cause it is so damn expensive.

Final question. Is there any webshop in the uk that is less expensive then AF1 that ships to other country?

I have changed the starter motor, put on the yamaha starter relay, done the "brown wire" mod, changed the battery. So i hope the damn thing starts normal after this last thing i have to do.

Thank god for this amazing forum that has learned me how to do the starting procedure right and all the other modifications. Had i known this before i did not had to ruin the sprag clutch.

    Hi mate.
I think they mean that adjusting the vales should be about the level of your competence!
It's not really a major job - the most difficult thing is getting the flywheel off for which you'll need some heat (like a blow torch) on it for about 10 minutes - you should be able to hear the loctite sizzling and melting. You'll need a puller and a bolt to lock the crankshaft with - sounds like you've read up on it already so you probably know all this.
This is my thread when i did it:

I used www.speedaway.co.uk for the parts but different people have their own favorites. Do a search for Aprilia parts in the UK then PHONE them (don't order on line) and ask them if they have the parts you need in stock. If they haven't phone round and try and find someone who has - otherwise you'll grow old waiting for them to come from Italy!

BTW, if you do use the BMW sprag, don't put the circlip back in - I'm sure you'll have seen my thread on why not!

    Good luck.
