Clearways can be a bit of mare to get right , but I guess he (the Tuono)came up on your inside ?.

I tend to take Clearways as tight as possible but you do need to "hang off" and keep your foot up on on the footpeg.

    dan,
i did silverstone yesterday, and didnt get my knee down once.
and was going just as slow/quick as the posers dragging there knees everywhere.

it wasnt happening for me either, but i still enjoyed it,and it looks like you had fun ??
and i got home in one piece.which alot of the posers didnt!!!

If you try and get your helmet in line with your wing mirror and turn your foot out wards on the footrest and have one arse cheek on the seat, you will find that you will naturally quicker.

Dan, spend your money on doing an advanced riding course before your next track day. (This will be the best value for money performance mod you can make)

The reason for keeping the bike more upright and shifting your body weight is too keep as much rubber/contact patch on the road.

It may look good dragging your knee and laying the bike over to the edge of the tyre, but you are sacrificing grip.

I have to agree about getting off the bike.
By moving your body you keep the bike upright but move your centre of gravity to the inside. I always hang off the bike a lot as I'm a firm believer in technique leading to speed.

If your body is in the right place you can get naturally faster. Also use your knee as a datum- an indicator of what the bike is doing.

Set your body up so that you know exactly how far you're over when your knee goes down; this should help you be more consistant and develop a better 'feel' for leaning.

Trouble is I hear that 'Knee Up' is the new 'Knee Down'... ..Doh!

you mean where you hold your knee in and hope the footpeg (or exhaust) doesnt catch the ground in jeans i managed to do that on my wee lil RS50, well actually i ran out of tyre tread and then scraped the footpeg, stupid and scary but fortunately i didnt go down, i dont lean so crazy anymore and i doubt i will until i get something with knee sliders attached

different people have different definitions of speed, poor technique might give you an extra 5 or 10 mph but you will probably lose 25mph trying not to crash. it is sound advice to ride with good technique because speed is NOT the true measurement of how fast one rides

    Erm, are you sure?

"Speed is not the measure of how fast one rides".

I would agree that the fastest rider may not always be the best, i.e He laps 1 second quicker but is on the limit and nearly crashes every corner, compared to the guy with better technique who is smoother and has tons of grip, but I think your last paragraph is perhaps a little confusing?

It's a bit corny, but when the flag drops the bullshit stops.

i simply meant flat out speed is not the only factor in who "the fastest" is and infact those who are able to maintain a higher average speed are probably faster than those who get 10 or 20 mph faster on the straights only to 'nearly crash every corner' and lose any advantage gained on the straight (thus reducing their average speed)

a good example is whats faster through the twisties, a custom drag racer hayabusa, or a bog standard gsxr 750, obviously the 750 will be able to corner faster and obviously the hayabusa will handle like shit but piss all over everything on the straights

i reckon the 750 would win but hey thats just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own

have to have my two pence here
the knee down thing on the track it is used to maximize your lean angle for maximum corner speed at pace and is an indication to the rider he is at his limit admittedly most of the guys you see on the track are posing and arn't flat out on track days but not all!/ on the road it is for showboating as you don't really carry much corner speed and if someones behind you they tend to be slowed down by you
but hey ho! its so easy to do
